EDUCATION, THE GREAT EQUALISER

CHANGING THE NARRATIVE FOR THE NEXT GENERATION

COVID-19 disruptions are particularly severe in our disadvantaged communities. This has been highlighted in the education of our youth in these communities. School closures have necessitated a move to e-learning. In theory, this could be an important step towards a fairer education system. But the reality is very different. Most South African learners lack access to devices, data and quality educational resources.

It is with this in mind that iSchoolAfrica is driving a campaign that focuses on assisting matric students who have the potential to succeed, and whose futures are now in jeopardy due to the impact of COVID-19. iSchoolAfrica is setting up a consortium of partners, with the aim of assisting 10 000 matrics. iPads will deployed to support the learners who have fallen behind. iStore, as a key partner will give us access to pre-used, refurbished iPads. Learners will also have access to high quality curriculum relevant content. We invite you to join our intervention and help secure their futures.

A HELPING HAND

Some of the organisations she has volunteered and raised funds for include:

  • Kids Haven, a centre that provides protection, care and education for vulnerable children. Her expedition and summit of Kilimanjaro raised funds to build and equip a library at the organisation’s Child and Youth Care Centre in Benoni.

  • Saray has adopted The Lunchbox Fund and continues to raise funds to feed over 60 000 needy kids.

  • Mandela Libraries projects which builds libraries for under privileged schools
SUMMITS WITH A PURPOSE

In 2012 Saray founded Summits with a Purpose, an initiative that makes hiking, climbing and adventure sports more accessible to ordinary South Africans and encourages them to use these activities as a platform to make a difference in their communities. Summits with a Purpose has grown into an effective NPO, inspiring many to rise to a positive way of living.

THE MOUNTAIN OF
BECAUSE IT’S THERE
A PODCAST ABOUT CLIMBING THE MOUNTAIN OF LIFE
Because It’s There is a podcast about climbing the mountain of life. It explores the many dimensions of leadership: personal, organisational, civic and social. It’s lens – as befitting a host of many African nationalities – is inherently African. Which means Because It’s There recognises the trauma of the continent’s past, while also recognising the strength its people have shown in moving into the future.
